The University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica is a higher education institution which performs five undergraduate and three graduate professional studies, whose programmes are implemented using modern technologies that are constantly being upgraded. One of the specialist study programmes offered by the University is Crisis Management, a two-year study programme following the professional undergraduate study programme in Crisis Management. This study programme is primarily intended for people working in protection and security aspects of crises in legal entities, business enterprises, bodies of local and regional administration, state administrative bodies etc. For this very reason, the University is greatly interested in cyber-crime research, particularly in the field of data protection, information systems networking and their management. The number of hacking attacks on corporate networks keeps rising with each passing year, with the purpose of stealing and exploiting protected data. Therefore, it is very important to know how to secure data and prevent the occurrence of such issues.
The aim of the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica is to contribute to the overall development of the education system through the education of students in specific professional areas, thus ensuring the sufficient number and quality of highly educated personnel. In order to be able to cope with challenges in this very field, the University of Applied Sciences has been organizing the Crisis Management Days (CMD) conference for 13 years in a row. This international conference puts an emphasis on the researching of crises and crisis management, which is important not only for the development of the national security system of which crisis management is a part, but also for the design and implementation of high-quality education in this field. In consequence, continuous research and the exchange of experiences related to security challenges and crisis management are of great importance (http://www.dku.hr/).
The partnership in the organization of CYSEC 2020 is another opportunity for the University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica to contribute to the security of contemporary society, which is exposed to threats and risks of the modern era, through its activities in supporting scientific-research and professional work. Cybersecurity is one of the greatest challenges for both the contemporary and the future scientific and professional communities, so the University has been steadily increasing its activities in this very area. Our social responsibility has attained a high level through our public activities, and our primary goal is to be of service to the society through our contribution to safe and sustainable development.
